Congratulations Bob! That is Fabulous!
I'm here because I was curious about who was following me on Twitter. Thank you for following me. I am delighted to meet you and wish you all the success you deserve.
Although i have never weighed 300 lbs (I'm only 5') 'smile' ... I vividly remember when i finally made the first breakthrough in my weight loss after wanting it for soooooo long. What a terrific boost to know that i could really do it. It was a long journey, but each successive breakthrough gave me more hope. And I learned a LOT along the way (there wasn't much information available at that time). I finally reached the weight I am happy with and, Bob, it is so worth it.
Keep on, Bob! ... and I cheer you on as you CELEBRATE every success along the way!
Aloha,
Jan

You just started following me on Twitter, which led me to your blog. Just know that you can do it! I started my journey at 250lbs, and I've lost over 100lbs in the last 2 years, and I'm still going strong! It wasn't tough, and there have been many many times I've fallen off the wagon and gotten frustrated. But, at the end of the day, it's taught me so much, and it feels so good to know what I've accomplished. Now when I try on my old size 24 jeans, I can't believe I actually filled them at one point in my life. Good luck and stay strong!

Hi Bob,
I just read your blog, and would like to help you with your journey and new life. I lost 85 pounds years ago and have kept it off, and have a bag of tricks to keep me on target, or when I notice my clothes getting tight, I am able to get back where I belong.

I too have a lot going on and am frequently with company who likes to eat well and often, have children and a great husband and friends.

Rather than DIET, try to eat what ever you like, but keep your calories in check. I find a lot of people focus on fat or carbs, when regardless of where it comes from, a calorie is a calorie.

Try www.revolutionhealth.com/calculators/daily-calorie-needs, to calculate the total calories you should be consuming for the weight you would like to be at.

Next, buy yourself the following items: a small pocket diary or note book, a food scale, and Barbara Kraus' Calories and Carb book.

Every day you should set out to eat no more than the calories you need. Space them out through out the day. At first it will be a pain in the ass, having to weigh everything and write everything down, but it will help you learn portion size, the calories of what you are eating and will help you make better choices (when you can eat 6 cups of pop corn or one chocolate square off the corner of a bar, you realize the 6 cups will fill you more, and last longer).

You also need to move. Physically. Every day. It takes on average of 3 months to form a habit, good or bad, so get ready to dicipline yourself here. It is recommended that you cardio in the morning for best results, but if you can't or something comes up, later in the day is better than not at all. the first week do 15 to 20 minutes of fast pace walking. Fast to the point that you are breathing harder, but not gasping. After the first week, increase it up to 30 minutes.

I would suggest that you allow yourself 4 weeks. Commit to them. You will be amazed. I decided that at 40 I didn't want to die young, or live a long life in a chair unable to have fun.

Last year we went skiing on a family vacation and I had the absolute best time with my 16 year old. Better than I have ever had. This year I started running 5k's and I am in a bikini now at 43.

Oh yeah, one last though, Don't wait till the 21st. Start today. One day off will not undo 4 days if good training.

Success to you, and I hope I can help get you there!
